200 Foxconn workers threaten suicide over wage disputes and workplace conditions

“About 200 workers at the Wuhan factory expressed dissatisfaction with wages and workplace conditions by threatening to jump off the factory’s roof.” –  Information Centre for Human Rights in Hong Kong

The Foxconn employees are protesting just less than 30 days after Apple and Foxconn signed an agreement around workplace conditions, wages, and work hours. A similar situation took place in 2010 where employees actually followed through with their threat to jump off the factory roof.

“The incident involved workers new to the plant who disagreed with certain workplace adjustments..it was not a strike and no one was injured during the negotiations.” – Simon Tsing, spokesman for Hon Hai Precision
