Google obtains license for self-driving car in the state of Nevada

Google is constantly trying to be the leader in the future of technology industry.  We have seen many efforts by Google, including Project Glass for augmented reality glasses and self driving car. Last year, the U.S. state legislature passed a law for testing of driverless car, which allowed companies to test the car with a person in the driver and passenger seat.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that, “Google has a test fleet of at least eight vehicles and says it hopes to market the technology to auto manufacturers”. The driverless car functions using a global positioning system (GPS), artificial intelligence software, and an array of sensors (i.e. Radars, Lasers. IR) to navigate its way through traffic.

The state of Nevada issued a special licence plate with a red background and an infinity symbol. “I feel using the infinity symbol was the best way to represent the ‘car of the future’’” DMV Director Bruce Breslow. The modified Toyota Prius was given this infinity symbol left of the plate number “001” after successful demonstration of auto-pitot capabilities on city streets, highways and Las Vegas “Strip”. With the issue of the this license plate, the state of Nevada hopes to inspire other companies to develop, test and build autonomous vehicles.
