Today, a confidential RIM roadmap has leaked, which reveals the approximate launch dates for 6 upcoming BlackBerry smartphones and tablets. The Q1 2013 launch of BlackBerry London and Nevada are consistent with RIM’s press release and conference call for its quarterly earnings on June 28th. The launch dates on the roadmap are:
- 4G PlayBook – Q4, 2012
- BlackBerry 10 London – Q1, 2013
- BlackBerry 10 Nevada – Q1, 2013
- BlackBerry 10 Upgrade for PlayBook – Q1/Q2, 2013
- BlackBerry “Nashville” – Q2/Q3, 2013
- BlackBerry 10” PlayBook “Blackforest” – Q3, 2013
- BlackBerry “Naples” – Q3/Q4, 2013
The source also indicated to BlackBerryOS.com that the first BB 10 device will launch in the first week of January in Europe. After 3-4 weeks, it will launch in North America in early February. This is likely because the BlackBerry is much more popular in Europe than North America. Launching in Europe first would allow the device to create sales momentum and positive buzz before launching in North America.
A BB 10 launch in the first week of January would not be as long a delay as some have feared, since some were envisioning a worst-case scenario of a March 31st launch. With the first BB 10 superphone originally rumoured to launch in October, a early-January launch would only be a two-and-a-half month delay (versus a mid-October launch).
