New Apple Ads Show Mac Users Are Computer Illiterate

Apple has just launched what are likely the worst commercials in the company’s history.  Some PC users like to poke fun at Mac users for being incompetent with computers.  This is because of their need for an easy-to-use user interface, and their willingness to buy a computer that can’t be modified in terms of hardware.  In these new commercials, it appears Apple has come to the same conclusion about their customers after all these years.

In the first video, a man wants to create a video clip using iMovie on his MacBook, but has no idea how to use the software.  In the second video, a panicking man wants to use iPhoto to make a photo-card at 4am in the morning, but does not know how to.

Apple has created a reputation for easy-to-use software.  However, in these commercials it appears either the applications are actually not easy to use, or Mac users are simply too computer-illiterate to use them.  Either message is not favourable for Apple.

New BlackBerry Ads Put Apple’s Advertising to Shame

While BlackBerry has been criticized for years for being unimaginative with their commercials, its recent BlackBerry UK commercials have been spectacular.  They portray BlackBerry users as active and productive people, who utilize their BlackBerry to get things done and communicate with friends.

It is clear that Apple needs to take a page from BlackBerry’s playbook.
