4 Reasons 4G PlayBook is Better Than 4G New iPad

With the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook now available in Canada, we have conducted a comparison between the new tablet and the 4G iPad.  In the table below, the feature that is superior in each tablet is highlighted in green.

4G PlayBook outscores 4G New iPad 4-to-1

4G PlayBook Superior to 4G New iPad in Power and Price

With a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the 4G PlayBook is 50% faster in processing power than the 4G New iPad.  In addition, the PlayBook has a much higher resolution front camera than the iPad.  In terms of the browser, the PlayBook supports Flash, while the iPad does not.  The PlayBook also has a much better browser than the New iPad, with a score of 373 from html5test.com, versus the New iPad’s 324 (see picture below).

In what is likely the biggest difference, the 32GB 4G PlayBook is about $80 less expensive than the 16GB 4G New iPad.  If the 32GB models are compared, the PlayBook is about $180 less expensive than the new iPad.  We find the $80 to $180 saving to be significant, especially in today’s economy.  This price difference is testimony to Apple’s pursuit of ridiculously fat gross margins.

PlayBook’s browser is 49 points ahead of the New iPad’s

Using the Playbook along side my friends ipad and iphone opened their eyes…..they were simply frustrated with the limited browser use, and always having to pull out the old laptop. They bought their 1st Playbook this weekend and are thrilled. They also seen first hand multitasking…..they thought it was a feature only for business people, not consumers…….now they know. Now they want to see BB10 when it comes out….

Yes, the processor is faster (what’s about the GPU??), but this means not, the using experience is better or faster…
And of course the playbook is cheaper: it has only a 7″ screen (and a bad resolution). So the user experience on the iPad is better. Should be worth the price

Ya the PlayBook is definitely worth the price. I would argue the PlayBook has a better user experience than the new iPad. The PlayBook has better multi-touch gestures, with a touch-sensitive bezel. For example, an upward swipe from the bottom bezel is used to exit an app. A swipe up from the left corner of the bezel brings up the virtual keyboard. Meanwhile, the new iPad still relies on an out-dated physical home button to exit apps.

Bad Resolution? Hmmm don’t think so….Playbook is better on many very useful levels.

Also Playbook has an HDMI connector. Very useful for connecting to TV panels for movies and Power Point presentations.

Ya the HDMI connector is definitely handy. The new iPad requires you to purchase an extra adapter in order to connect to a HDMI cable. Not only is it inconvenient, the adapter costs you US$39.

Nice comparison. The 4G PlayBook is a better deal than the 4G (new) iPad.
