With the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook now available in Canada, we have conducted a comparison between the new tablet and the 4G iPad. In the table below, the feature that is superior in each tablet is highlighted in green.
4G PlayBook Superior to 4G New iPad in Power and Price
With a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the 4G PlayBook is 50% faster in processing power than the 4G New iPad. In addition, the PlayBook has a much higher resolution front camera than the iPad. In terms of the browser, the PlayBook supports Flash, while the iPad does not. The PlayBook also has a much better browser than the New iPad, with a score of 373 from html5test.com, versus the New iPad’s 324 (see picture below).
In what is likely the biggest difference, the 32GB 4G PlayBook is about $80 less expensive than the 16GB 4G New iPad. If the 32GB models are compared, the PlayBook is about $180 less expensive than the new iPad. We find the $80 to $180 saving to be significant, especially in today’s economy. This price difference is testimony to Apple’s pursuit of ridiculously fat gross margins.
