Dan Dodge, CEO of QNX Software Systems, sat down with CrackBerry for a walkthrough of the QNX-powered Bentley at CES. The 11-minute video is a joy to watch, given the visually stunning 17″ 1080p display.
At the 3:43 mark in the video, Dan Dodge explains the stereoscopic 3D display in the dashboard. With the touch of a button, the display switches from normal video mode to 3D mode. Dan Dodge mentions that the display technology is not ready yet, but that it will be ready in 4 to 5 months. In addition, the dashboard is powered by the same CPU that is in the Dev Alpha.
Once 3D displays have been tested in QNX concept cars, they will likely move to BlackBerry smartphones if there is enough consumer demand. Thus, we could start seeing BlackBerry smartphones with 3D displays as early as 2014. Regardless of the time-frame, BlackBerry smartphones could be launching with 3D displays sooner than anyone had previously thought.
Do you think we will see BlackBerry 10 smartphones with 3D displays in 2014? How about 2015? Please leave your comment below.
